I have come across a very disturbing saying that "
a
pregnant woman has one foot in the grave". this sort of answers while
in many African traditions women will congraturate a woman who has
successfully given birth. In Uganda people will say kulika omwana
which literally translates to "well survived". That means people are
not just happy about the new life but sincerely welcoming the mother
from a the "grave".
Tragically, up to 1 in 11 women don't live to see the happiness they anticipated when
pregnant. they lose life trying to give life. Some who survive, live
with horrifying experiences and complications that forever alter their
quality of life.
I
therefore ask why on earth women should continue to die of same
preventable causes in 21 st century as it was in stone age yet, we have
the means and skills to combat it. it is inconceivable
This blog is ideally meant to document stories of people who narrowly survived this tragedy or those parents, loved ones and neighbors never made it, to express themselves so that together we can garner the support needed to change some thing
